Sri Lanka is once again in the national spotlight, but this time it’s in the spotlight for not-so-good news. According to an article published by the Associated Press, the reigning Miss World tore the crown off the head of the winning contestant of the Mrs. Sri Lanka beauty pageant.

And it’s all on camera! Caroline Jurie, the winner of the 2020 Mrs. World event, is accused of causing bodily injury to Pshpika De Silva, the newly-crowned winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant held in Colombo last weekend.

As you watch the video, you’ll see that moments after De Silva is crowned, Jurie, walks onto the stage and takes the crown away from De Silva! She then gets on the microphone to state the De Silva was ineligible because she was divorced. However, De Silva later took to Facebook to explain that although she is separated from her husband, she is certainly not divorced.

“Being apart is one. Divorce is something else. I’m still an un divorced woman,” she wrote.

One thing is for sure, this incident was a little uncomfortable to watch, and hopefully, parents can teach their children that the best way to solve a dispute is to do so privately and when nerves a cool. It is certainly poor class to do so on live TV.

A trial is scheduled for April 9.
